17th century nun's prayer

mariaLord,
Thou knowest better than I know myself that I am growing older and will some day will be old.
Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and on every occasion.
Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's affairs.
Make me thoughtful but not moody: Helpful but not bossy.
With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all, but thou knowest Lord that I want a few friends at the end.
Keep my mind free from the recital of less details; give me wings te get to the point.
Seal my lips on my aches and pains.
They are increasing, and love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by.
I dare not ask for grace enough to enjoy the tales of other pains, but held me to endure them with patience
.
I dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growing humility and a lessing cocksureness when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others.
Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.
Keep me reasonably sweet; I do not want to be a saint - some of them are so hard to live with - but a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil.
Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places and talents in unexpected people.
And, give me, o lord, the grace to tell them so.
Amen.

Celtic prayer

sky4

God with me lying down,
God with me rising up,
God with me in each ray of light,
Nor I a ray of joy without Him,
Nor one ray without Him.

Christ with me sleeping,
Christ with me waking,
Christ with me watching,
Every day and night,
Each day and night.

God with me protecting,
The Lord with me directing,
The Spirit with me strengthening,
For ever and for evermore,
Ever and evermore, Amen.
Chief of chiefs, Amen.

God, I offer myself to Thee

candle

God, I offer my self to Thee - to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.
Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy power, Thy love, and Thy way of life.
May I do Thy will always.

Guardian Angel Prayer

angel1

Guardian Angel from heaven so bright,
Watching beside me to lead me aright,
Fold thy wings round me, and guard me with love,
Softly sing songs to me of heaven above. Amen.

Old Muslim Prayer

angel

O Lord!
If I worship You from fear of hell
Let me burn in hell;
If I worship you hoping for Paradise,
exclude me from Paradise;
but if I worship You for Your own sake only.
do not withhold from me Your Eternal Beauty.

Salutation of the dawn

dawn_sky

Listen to the exhortation of the Dawn

Look to this Day
for it is life, the very life of life

In its brief course lie
all the verities and realities of our existence
the Bliss of Growth
theĀ  Glory of Action
the Splendor of Beauty

For yesterday is but a Dream
and tomorrow is only a vision

But today well lived makes
every yesterday a Dream of Happiness
